Before and after photos
This sectional and ottoman came to us with years of everyday use: food spills, urine spots and a few food-coloring stains. The fabric is synthetic. Here is exactly what we did and how it turned out.

Watch the full clean
What was on it
- Food and drink spills on the seats and ottoman
- Urine spots
- Food-coloring stains
- Everyday soil and body oils on the seat cushions
How we cleaned it
- Pre-vacuum. We removed loose dirt, crumbs and hair first, so we were not just pushing dry soil around with water.
- Shampoo. We applied a cleaning solution to break down spills and ground-in dirt.
- Agitate. We worked the solution gently into the fabric to loosen the soil.
- Hot-water extraction. We flushed the fabric with hot water and pulled the dirt and solution back out.
- Treat the food-coloring stains. These needed extra attention after extraction, and they came out as well.
- Final rinse. We rinsed everything one last time so no cleaning residue was left in the fabric.
Why the rinse matters
Leftover cleaning product can attract dirt and leave the fabric looking dull or spotty again. A final rinse helps the result last longer. If you have tried cleaning a couch yourself and it looks worse afterward, read our guide: Couch looks worse after DIY cleaning?
The result
The seat cushions brightened up, and the spill, urine and food-coloring stains were removed. The customer was happy with the result and left us a Google review.
Every couch is different. Some stains, like dye damage, bleach or sun fading, can be permanent. We check the fabric and tell you what to expect before we start.
